Ben Martin’s philosophy as a linebacker coach has always been to encourage what you want with the correct steps. Don’t want to talk about what’s incorrect, but to focus on how to correct the mistakes. With individual drills, as coaches, you always have to determine how much time you have, that will determine what drills you’re going to get to.

Plan your drills at the beginning of each week, decide that week and have a No need drills.

Our need to do this with drills, we expect our linebackers to be in this position. In these situations, we want them to work their technique

  • Eyes
  • Footwork
  • Hand placement
  • Run fits or their drive for that situation

and we're trying to prepare them for our game on Saturday or Friday.

Then every week, always have some form of tackling, run fits, and pass drops. Always incorporate, never just work one skill in drill and add more than one skill set in these drills just to make yourself more efficient in the time that you have.
