Course 22: Inside & Outside Zone Drills

Matthew Love, coach McManus’s Offensive Line coach and running game coordinator at Spartanburg High School, goes into detail on Inside Zone pod drills they used for their offensive line this past year.

INSIDE ZONE

• Covers using boards and PVC hurdles to train the linemen to move properly,
• using a 4-man pod drills in practice to practice zone blocks as a unit,
• how to move the defenders during the drill to give the offensive line practice calling their blocks,
• focus on the required footwork
• how to correct some common errors amongst newer/younger players.

OUTSIDE ZONE

• Covers using boards and PVC hurdles to train the linemen to move properly,
• using a 4-man pod drills in practice to practice zone blocks as a unit,
• when players should witch to a Hammer Block or Full Zone, 
• how the players adjust to different defensive configurations
